"That's our acronym, HOPE, says Nancy Leisure, director of operations and the visionary who founded the women's support group back in 2016. *We help women transitioning from prison or from homelessness. The ultimate goal is to have a transitional house, so we can help them transition to permanent homes. We offer whole-life recovery-rediscovery care, coaching and mentorship workshops." Sisters of Hope NC, Inc. started as a group that met at each other's homes. When COVID struck, it evolved into a woman's support organization. "God led me to serve at the prison, at the women's and men's shelters and at our resource center in downtown Thomasville," she says. "We cook the food once a month. Community members are allowed to pick up household goods and enjoy a hot meal. We set up a table where our volunteers and members of our board talk with the people and pray for and with them." When the organization is able to found a transition center, she hopes it will house up to 10 women at a time for up to a year. "We can help them grow, change their mindsets and hopefully change their lives so when they come back into the community, they can be productive citizens, she says.
